Chopin According to Fei Ping Hsu is the single greatest piano recording I have ever heard, that alone says a lot as I own maybe a hundred or so. Being a piano player for 11 years, some piano recordings make me cringe in a almost involuntary manner, their lack of tonality and depth portray the piano as two dimensional. I "know" how a piano "should" sound and this CD comes the closest to hearing myself play or listening live. So real in fact that I routinely get that tingle down the spine, ohhhhhhh.... feeling that lets me sink right into music with such ease and vulnerability. Fei Ping Hsu plays with the weight of his past, good and bad, one the owner of this CD will discover with the literature provided. Through his playing one feels the weight of arms and shoulders almost too tired to carry on. The last track titled "Fugue: peace" is one song that words fail to articulate in the manner deserving. Good luck pulling yourself away from this album. Now sit in you listening chair, power up the speakers or headphones and escape our world for an hour or so.
