J. S. Bach/Orgelbuchlein
Ensemble Mare Nostrum, direction Andrea De Carlo
An ambitious and elegant orchestration of J. S Bach`s ?Orgelbuchlein? performed by Ensemble Mare Nostrum, a ?concept group? led by Italian viola da gamba player Andrea De Carlo.
Here the work is presented in a unique, chamber setting, featuring the lovely Belgian soprano Celine Scheen and boy soprano Simon Bomon. Other instruments include archlute, viol consort and portative organ (played by the Argentine keyboard genius of Leonardo Garcia Alarcon).
The choral melodies and corresponding texts are oftentimes presented in a vocal context, mostly by Celine Scheen and Simon Bomon, while the remaining chorales are performed instrumentally.
The work was recorded during the late winter and early spring of 2006, inside L`eglise de Franc Waret, located in the Wallonne Region of Namur, Belgium. All instruments were early music instruments, most of them constructed after original period instruments. The portative organ was built by Belgian born Etienne Debaisieux.
